Mortgage Sales Consultant

What the job involves

You will be responsible for guiding new and existing customers through the mortgage application or additional borrowing process. Following a script and on-screen prompts, you will take the caller through a fact-find to establish their position and circumstances – e.g. whether they have found a property and whether or not they are a first-time buyer. You will talk about the different kinds of mortgages available (although you won't be able to advise on which one the customer should select), and establish how much the customer could borrow and what the monthly repayments would be. The next stage of the process is the agreement-in-principle, where you will produce a quote and send it to the customer. You will then arrange when to call back to take the application further and finalise the mortgage. An additional and important element of the role is to promote products such as payment protection plans, building and contents insurance and critical illness cover.

What we expect from you

You will have sales experience, either face to face or in a contact centre. As for mortgage or financial experience, it's a bonus, not a necessity-because apart from a great telephone manner and basic computer knowledge, having the right attitude is what really counts.
