Bridget's Profile - Mortgage Sales Professional

I’ve been at HBOS for 7 years now and I’ve always been in the contact centre, and always in mortgages. I really enjoy my job! I’d always worked in sales, mostly customer-facing and always with a really strong customer service element. Here I have a broader range of customers to talk to and engage with, and there’s much more chance for recognition.

I knew HBOS had a good reputation for how they treat customers, and had good products. I felt that it would be a good business to work for, and very stable. In fact it still feels stable even now. When I arrive I catch up with my diary. There will be some calls that I need to follow up, as well as being available to take inbound calls. It’s about managing your time, helping to give all of my customers the best information so that they can make the best decision.

My product knowledge means I am respected in the business, and I have a part to play in supporting new starters. I feel my knowledge and skills are recognised. I really feel like a banking professional, and I take this role seriously as we’re responsible for people making really big decisions.

There’s a very clear career path here, from working on a team of 8 - 10 consultants to Team Manager, then Sales or Service Manager. You can always move across departments too – and obviously in a business this size, that gives loads of opportunities. There’s lots of coaching and training. Partly to keep up to date with regulation, but as above all to make sure we do the best job – and that’s about offering the best advice.

Pay-rises and bonus are based on your performance. There’s also annual awards for the star performers – I was lucky enough to be invited this year. It was fantastic to be nominated - just getting the invite was a really big deal. It made me feel like all my hard work had been noticed and appreciated. And it made me want to do it again!
